About Kaneyama
The area where Kaneyama‐machi is located was called ‘Kaneyama‐dani (Kaneyama valley)’ in earlier times.
In the medieval period the area was under the control of the Yamanouchi clan, one of the four ruling families of the Aizu area. Later, in the Edo period (1603-1867), it became a part of ‘Minamiyama‐okurairi’, a vast shogunate demain which also included the Oze area.
In 1955 the villages of Numazawa, Kawaguchi, Honna, and Yokota, were consolidated into Kaneyama‐mura (the Japanese word ‘mura’ means ‘village’ in English), which was reorganized as a town in 1958, based on the Town Ordinance, and was named Kaneyama‐machi.
Kaneyama‐machi has a total area of 293.97 square kilometers, 90 percent of which is a mountainous region, a population of approximately 1,800 (985 households) and 30 various‐sized communities.
The senior citizens' rate of the town is about 60 percent and is one of the highest in the Tohoku region.
With the aim of creating' ‘a town happy with the laughter of children’, we are striving to construct a comfortable town to live in.
